Envisioning an open-air oasis for dinner parties, cocktail gatherings, and weekend relaxation, Michael Tavano created a lush yet livable terrace with Restoration Hardware’s Mulholland Collection and Perennials outdoor velvets. “The bronze on the sleek Mulholland pieces develops a rich patina, adding a luxurious texture and a feeling of permanence,” he says. A golden cabana from Designlush defines the lounge area, separating it from the dining space beyond. “I cut bright-blue Plexiglas to top Restoration Hardware’s Lava Rock Propane Tank Covers, creating little cocktail tables,” Tavano says. Colorful, easy-to-update pillows and accessories rev up pieces in neutral colors, and strategic garden plantings from Erbology provide greenery, to further define this urban oasis.

As you enter the home’s lower level, a calm, serene library provides an urban retreat for the homeowners. “It’s their private place to recharge, and the palette reflects this,” says Amy Mellen, creative director of Calvin Klein Home. The designer concentrated on subtle nuances in color and texture for the room, hallmarks of the line. “I focus on mixing materials when I design, so it was interesting to see how the fabrics worked with the antiques that we incorporated, like the beautiful vintage Japanese kimono and the shipwreck jars,” Mellen says. The line’s new cantilevered bookshelf is modular and can be configured to suit any space.

Imagined for a freewheeling modern art collector, this vibrant bedroom makes a bold, graphic statement. “I wanted to create a fresh, new concept for the room,” says Christopher Coleman, a Brooklyn-based designer. Calligaris furniture was central to the scheme. “The line was a good fit,” Coleman says. “Their pieces adapt to any space, and I like their edited color palette.” All of the room’s furnishings, which include vintage pieces, were “carefully curated for function and the addition of artistic punch,” he adds. The geometric carpet sets an inspiring mood, walls are strategically accented with important contemporary photography, and a wide expanse of windows makes the room “bright and cheery,” observes Coleman.

Designed for an “it” girl artist, fresh out of college, this luscious bedroom serves double duty as a hangout for friends. Designer Katie Leede reveled in the challenge of “making design look cool and couture on a limited budget.” Her secret was “keeping the palette of colors and textures simple but strong, and adding striking artwork.” A Charles P. Rogers white tufted leather bed anchors the room, and a bohemian canopy in one of the designer’s own fabrics is draped above. Restoration Hardware’s Jute Rug in charcoal covers the floor, layered with a sheepskin rug, and Farrow and Ball’s intense yet soothing wall color makes everything pop, from the sleek Calligaris nightstands to the essential artwork. “I outfitted my bedroom’s closet with items from the Container Store. The flexibility of their designs are just so clever. I had so much fun creating a whole little world in there,” says Leede.

Featured in the kitchen and bathrooms, Caesarstone quartz countertops offer versatile appeal and easy maintenance in colors and textures that complement contemporary life. “I used the shitake color in the kitchen. It’s very warm and earthy, and the contrast with the lacquer cabinetry is beautiful,” says designer Sherrill Canet. Working with one of nature’s most abundant minerals, Caesarstone is a leader in sustainable business practices, from recycling 97 percent of the water used in manufacturing to collecting dust from shipping, handling, production, and processing of the product. The Solna faucet by Brizo, inspired by contemporary Scandinavian furniture, is the perfect finishing touch to this space. “It has a wonderful sculptural shape. You just touch the faucet, and it turns on and off,” add Canet. A new “hidden” pull-down spray wand adds functionality, yet allows Solna to maintain its sleek form.
