The Palm Springs Mat for Graphic Designers


The living room in Jeffrey Kerns’s Palm Springs, California, home was enlarged by knocking out a wall and now contains an eclectic mix of art and furnishings, including Eero Aarnio’s 1966 Ball chair and an Antonio Citterio cocktail table for B&B Italia, artwork by Richard Serra and Sean Duffy, as well as Kerns’s Blue Great Dane, Jasper.

The kitchen elements are by Varenna Poliform, the floors are terrazzo, and the countertops are Carrara marble. The house emphasizes indooroutdoor living

The entry court has a plastic light fixture from the 1950s, IKEA mesh curtains, and plenty of glass to let light in.

The original house, a low-slung ranch, was built in 1971 and is situated on a golf course.

In the master bedroom, the flooring is bamboo, and the leather chaise is an Antonio Citterio design by B&B Italia.

The pool area, surrounded by desert plantings and views of the San Jacinto mountains.

The tub in the master bath is a functional work of art by Wieki Somers.
